I have not counted but I believe there are 15 to 20 of these signs advertising WalMart Tire & Lube also Photo & Camera.

What is not fair is WALMART can put these in their parking lot and get away with it Shocked

Why ?

This is a direct violation of the sign code Confused

The sign Nazi picks on small stores in La Plata. For example I heard that The True Value Hardware was made by the SIGN NAZI to take down signs that advertized wood pellets for wood stoves last winter..............

WHY?

Post sign sign signs- everywhere signs- except where you need the
i was eating at a small local owned place the other day- and the couple who sat by me were talking- the man apparently used to live in La Plata and the woman still lives here.
The man said- this place is nice, how long has it been here. The woman replied that it was a few years old- but she forgets it when she goes to eat because you can't really see it from the road and the signs are not big enough to remind her. Crying or Very sad
I just thought- well it proves the point- of the architecture and the signage. Dash In was looking pretty good and atractive. Then here came the humongous shell logo and the Dash In sign. No way can you miss it. Confused

Post out and looking
i was out on 301 today looking around and I think I need to take my camera next week and have chill him post them for me.
Things do look better and i get hopeful and then I look other spots and signs are everywhere.
the dashin on the corner looked good- and their sign wasn't too bad until I saw the gant yellow shell- TOO BIG

Down by the dance studio where Roys is going: the mattress store not only has a big sign, they have posters on the window AND mattresses propped up outisde. Nationwide Insurance is all Blue words all over their windows- the travel agency- same. The Bail Bonds places seem to be multiplying and one has 2 windows both filled with the NEON- the safeway shopping center is the best and all stores have road frontage so can be seen as well can their signage. The new petco also looks good.

Then we have the GIANT LaPLata Storage Sign- wow.

So enforce- not enforce- give some a break according to road frontage and visability?? I dont know the answer- but it does not look even

Post Walmart
WalMart, Lowe's and Giant are all in the incorporated limits of the Town of LaPlata. WalMart was built many years before there was a sign ordiance. Lowe's and Giant are being built according to the building and sign ordinances now in place. The Target and Safeway also.

Post some answers from another Charles Co. blog
The "Welcome to LaPlata" signs that are on 301 and on Washington Avenue, and maybe others, are clearly older and obviously outdated. The annexation agreement provided for Fasion, the developer of Rosewick Crossing, to contribute to a new "Welcome to LaPlata" sign which is in the process of being developed.

The older signs in the town do not have to be replaced unless the nature of the business changes and the sign is changed or modified; the name of the business changes and the sign is changed or modified; or a sign has been damaged more than 50% of it's replacement cost at time of damage. Any freestanding sign (those signs usually on a pole and normally closer to the road) existing prior to November, 2003 which lists 3 or more tenants are required to file a master sign plan if during any 3 month period more than 40% of the existing total square footage is changed or modified.

the Design Review Board have meetings the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 9AM at Town Hall. Anyone wishing to see how the process works is welcome to attend.

I'm glad we have the sign police but they need to enforce the rules equally among all businesses. Without the sign police you would get god knows what written on some piece of crap posterboard taped inside a window. Or a giant neon light in the middle of LaPlata like that awful Chinese restaurant had.
