Ronald Joseph Despres (63, of Mechanicsville) was driving his Honda motorcycle north on Md. Rt. 5 at the intersection of Md. Rt. 231. He struck a patch of ice and crashed his bike, landing on the road.
A station wagon in the other lane behind Despres, stopped in the roadway to avoid the crash scene. Behind that vehicle was Richard Michael Meyers (56, of Upper Marlboro) in a 2005 Freightliner Straight Truck. Not having seen the crash, Meyers swerved around the station wagon to avoid hitting it, but struck Despres as he lay on the roadway.
Despres died at the scene. Meyers was not injured.
A Red/Maroon Honda or Hyundai station wagon was observed at the collision scene. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the station wagon is urged to contact TFC. Stevenson at 301-392-1200 or TFC. Zimmerman at 301-392-1231
